A powerboat driver has died after crashing into a houseboat during an international racing competition in Lowestoft, Suffolk. The incident occurred on Thursday evening just after 7pm at the Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre.
Brett Duncan, 51, sustained fatal injuries in what the Circuit Powerboat Association described as a 'lone racing accident'. Emergency services, including the East of England Ambulance Service, Coastguard, and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, attended the scene.
The crash happened during the ninth round of the international competition organised by the Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club. Police confirmed no other injuries were reported.
The Circuit Powerboat Association confirmed Duncan's identity and expressed shock and sadness at his untimely passing. They requested privacy for the family and asked that people refrain from speculating on the circumstances.
The Marine Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the collision. Suffolk Constabulary stated they are working closely with partner agencies.
