As the Formula 1 season resumes this weekend in the Netherlands after its annual four-week summer shutdown, the paddock's multi-millionaires have been enjoying their holidays aboard some of the world's most luxurious yachts. Many of these vessels are moored in Monaco, reflecting the wealth and extravagance that define the sport.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who owns a third of the team and has a net worth of over £1 billion, owns a Mangusta 165 yacht valued at around £22 million. The 50-metre vessel has a top speed of 30 mph and features five bedrooms, a jacuzzi and jet skis for up to 12 guests. It recently hosted Max Verstappen amid Wolff's hopes of signing the four-time world champion.
Verstappen himself owns a £33 million yacht named 'Unleast the Lion', which can sleep 12 guests and five crew members. Described as “a Bond villain’s weekend getaway,” it includes a rear deck with white sofas, space for a speedboat and a large master cabin.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton purchased a Sunseeker 90 yacht for around £2 million in 2009, shortly after winning his maiden world title. The 28-metre vessel can reach nearly 35 mph and accommodates up to eight people, featuring American walnut woodwork, air conditioning and an ample entertainment area.
Ferrari driver and Monaco native Charles Leclerc owns two yachts: a Riva 66 Ribelle Sedici, which is 20 metres long and capable of over 40 mph, and a Riva Dolceriva Monza bought for more than £1 million in 2020 to mark his victory at the 2019 Italian Grand Prix.
