Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed serious concerns about Benjamin Sesko after the club's record signing suffered a worrying knee injury during Sunday's draw with Tottenham.
Expensive Signing Forced Off
The £73.7 million summer acquisition entered the pitch as a 58th-minute substitute but was forced to limp off just thirty minutes later, displaying significant discomfort. Sesko, who joined United amid great expectation, now faces an anxious wait for medical assessment results.
Amorim didn't hide his apprehension when speaking to reporters after the match. "I have no idea if it could be serious," the United boss admitted. "When it's the knee, you never know."
Manager's Transfer Window Dilemma
The potential long-term absence of Sesko compounds United's existing selection headaches, with several key players scheduled to depart for international duty. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui will all be unavailable for up to a month while participating in the African Cup of Nations.
Amorim acknowledged the mounting personnel crisis, stating: "Of course, we're going to have a problem there, but we already knew that. Managing that situation is going to be difficult."
January Transfer Activity Considered
The Portuguese manager refused to rule out dipping into the January transfer market to address the growing injury and absence list. "We'll see when the window opens if we can improve the team and try to repair some of what has happened," Amorim revealed.
However, he emphasised the immediate challenge facing his squad: "Until then, we have to take risks." The manager's comments suggest United may be forced into early transfer activity if Sesko's injury proves serious.
Amorim concluded with genuine concern for his star striker: "I'm worried about the injury because it's the knee. We need Ben to be a better team. We have to check everything, we have to check what happened with Ben."
