Tiger Woods Eyes Masters Return After Confirming TGL Finals Comeback
Tiger Woods Targets Masters After TGL Finals Golf Return

Tiger Woods has taken a significant stride towards potentially playing in the Masters after confirming his return to competitive golf in the TGL Finals. The golf legend, who has not participated in a professional tournament since the 2024 Open at Royal Troon, will test his fitness in the indoor league's championship series.

Woods' Road to Recovery and Masters Aspirations

Woods, who turned 50 in December, underwent disc replacement surgery last October and previously dealt with a ruptured achilles tendon in spring 2025. Despite these challenges, he remains hopeful about competing at Augusta National, where the Masters begins on 9 April. Speaking last month, Woods stated that playing in the Masters was "not off the table," though he acknowledged the difficulties of his recovery journey.

"It's just one of those things where it's each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing," Woods explained. "I keep working on it, trying to get stronger, trying to get more endurance in this body and trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again."

TGL Finals as a Fitness Test

Woods will make his comeback in the TGL Finals on Tuesday evening, playing for the Jupiter Links team against Los Angeles Golf Club in the second match of their best-of-three series. As a co-founder of the TGL alongside Rory McIlroy, Woods has taken a non-playing role throughout the season until now. He will join teammates Max Homa and Tom Kim to face Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and Sahith Theegala.

The Jupiter Links TGL team announced his return with a social media post featuring a photo of Woods and the caption, "I'm back." However, the simulator-based format of the TGL cannot fully replicate the physical demands of walking the Augusta course for at least two rounds, making this appearance a crucial but limited fitness indicator.

Competitive Context and Future Plans

Los Angeles Golf Club won the first TGL Finals match 6-5 on Monday. If Jupiter Links wins Tuesday's encounter, Woods plans to also play in a potential decider. After the initial loss, Woods expressed solidarity with his team, saying, "I feel bad for them. As a team, we were together in this, all of us together, and it was close."

He added, "We could have flipped in the middle of that back nine, and it came down to the last hole. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but we have possibly two more matches. We're not out of this."

Woods, a 15-time major champion with five Masters victories—most recently in 2019—has yet to officially confirm his participation at Augusta. His recent activities included hosting the Genesis Invitational tournament last month, but the TGL Finals mark his first competitive action since 2024, offering a glimpse into his physical readiness for the gruelling Masters test.
