Michael van Gerwen Chases Assailant After Late Night Assault in Netherlands
Michael van Gerwen Assaulted on Night Out in Netherlands

Michael van Gerwen, the three-time World Darts Champion, experienced a serious and worrying turn of events during a night out in the Netherlands while celebrating the national holiday of King's Day. Video footage circulating online appears to show the Dutchman being attacked outside a bar in Den Bosch.

Incident Details

The clip, posted by Dutch media, captures van Gerwen engaged in a heated exchange with a man outside the establishment. As onlookers gathered, van Gerwen could be seen speaking directly into the man's ear, with the individual responding with his own remarks. The situation escalated when the man threw a right hand at van Gerwen, who appeared visibly shaken by the blow.

Unsurprisingly, van Gerwen reacted by chasing after the individual as bystanders attempted to intervene. Before he could reach his assailant, a group of men in orange jackets, believed to be security staff, grabbed hold of the man and removed him from the area. Van Gerwen does not appear to have sustained any serious injuries, with the incident said to have taken place on Sunday night.

Previous Incident

This is not the first time van Gerwen has been involved in a physical altercation during a night out. In September 2025, he was filmed in a similar incident inside a kebab shop in Den Bosch. At that time, van Gerwen explained to Darts News: "After an enjoyable night out, we wanted to grab something to eat, and unfortunately I ended up in a situation you'd rather avoid. The man came at me from the kitchen, not the other way round, following a verbal exchange. People are making it sound more dramatic than it actually was, which is a shame."

Upcoming Premier League Action

Van Gerwen is set to compete in Premier League action in Aberdeen on Thursday evening, where he will face Luke Humphries. The Dutchman is currently on track to secure his place at finals night, holding a four-point advantage over fifth-placed Gian van Veen.

Mirror Sport has contacted van Gerwen's representatives and the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) for a response regarding the recent incident.
