Michael van Gerwen was reportedly assaulted outside a bar in Den Bosch, Netherlands, during celebrations for King's Day on Sunday night. Video footage circulating online shows the three-time world darts champion engaged in a heated exchange with a man before being struck with a right hand.
In the clip, Van Gerwen can be seen speaking directly to the individual, who then retaliated verbally before throwing a punch. The Dutchman appeared shaken but immediately chased after the assailant. Bystanders and security staff intervened, with a group of men in orange jackets restraining the attacker and removing him from the scene.
Van Gerwen did not sustain any serious injuries. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) released a statement saying, 'We are aware of footage circulating of an incident involving Michael van Gerwen. He did not provoke the situation and was not at fault. As this is a private matter, we will not be commenting further.' Van Gerwen's management, MODUS, issued a similar statement.
This incident follows a similar altercation in September 2025, when Van Gerwen was involved in a physical confrontation inside a kebab shop in Den Bosch. At the time, he clarified that the other man initiated the attack, and the situation was resolved amicably.
Van Gerwen is scheduled to compete in Premier League action in Aberdeen on Thursday evening against Luke Humphries. He currently holds a four-point lead over fifth-placed Gian van Veen as he aims to secure his place at finals night.
