Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has revealed the club's ambitious plans to reach the Premier League, fuelled by the vision of Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
Since the celebrity duo took over the Welsh club in 2020, Wrexham has enjoyed a meteoric rise, securing back-to-back promotions and capturing global attention. Now, Parkinson is setting his sights even higher.
Hollywood-Backed Ambition
Parkinson praised McElhenney and Reynolds for their transformative impact, stating: "Their passion and commitment have been incredible. They've not just invested financially but emotionally, and that's driving us forward."
The manager acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasised the long-term strategy in place. "The Premier League is the dream, but we're building step by step. The foundations are being laid for sustainable success," he added.
Global Spotlight on Wrexham
Thanks to the Disney+ documentary "Welcome to Wrexham," the club has gained a massive international following. This exposure has boosted commercial revenue and player recruitment, key factors in their upward trajectory.
Parkinson highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum: "We're not just a football club anymore; we're a global brand. That brings opportunities, but also higher expectations."
The Road Ahead
With Wrexham now in League One, the next target is the Championship. Parkinson admitted the competition will be fierce but believes the club's unique story and backing give them an edge.
"We're writing our own script here," he said. "The Premier League might seem a long way off, but so did League One not long ago. With this team and these owners, anything feels possible."
