Japanese football icon Kazuyoshi Miura, known globally as 'King Kazu', has defied time once again by signing a new contract that will see him continue playing professional football beyond his 59th birthday.
A Historic Move to Fukushima United
The world's oldest active professional footballer has agreed a loan move to J.League third-division side Fukushima United. The deal, confirmed on Tuesday 30 December 2025, will see the 58-year-old striker join the club until at least June of next year.
Miura, who turns 59 in February, will therefore celebrate that milestone while still on the pitch as a registered player. The move is a temporary switch from his parent club, Yokohama FC of the J2 League, where he has been under contract but has not made a first-team appearance since 2020.
An Unwavering Passion for the Game
Expressing his enduring love for football, Miura stated his commitment to his new team. He vowed to play with everything he has to contribute to Fukushima United and, in his own words, "make history".
This loan marks the legendary forward's fourth such move since 2022, following previous spells at clubs including Atletico Suzuka. It heralds the astonishing beginning of his 41st consecutive professional season, a career that began back in 1986 with Brazilian giants Santos.
The Legacy of King Kazu
Miura's longevity in the sport is unparalleled. His career now spans five decades, and his move to Fukushima United is the latest chapter in a story that continues to inspire athletes worldwide.
By continuing to compete at a professional level, 'King Kazu' not only breaks records but also redefines the perceived limits of an athlete's career. His dedication sets a remarkable precedent in the world of sport, proving that passion and professionalism can transcend age.
