Hollywood superstar Will Ferrell has taken a minority stake in Leeds United, adding a touch of celebrity glamour to the club's ownership structure. The Anchorman actor, known for his passionate support of football, has joined the 49ers Enterprises-led consortium that owns the Yorkshire club.
The announcement comes as Leeds prepare for their return to the Premier League following last season's Championship promotion. Ferrell, who previously showed his football knowledge by playing a fictional AFC Richmond owner in the hit series Ted Lasso, will now have real involvement in the beautiful game.
A Celebrity Fan Turned Investor
Ferrell's investment continues the trend of Hollywood figures entering football ownership, following in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham. The comedian has been a vocal football enthusiast for years, even attending matches at various clubs including his local LAFC in Major League Soccer.
"As a longtime football fan, I'm thrilled to be part of the Leeds United family," Ferrell said in a statement. "The club's rich history and passionate fanbase make this an exciting opportunity."
Strategic Partnership
The 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, became majority owners of Leeds last summer. Ferrell's involvement is seen as both a financial investment and a strategic move to raise the club's global profile.
Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear commented: "Will's passion for football and his global appeal will be invaluable as we continue to grow Leeds United internationally."
The club is currently preparing for their first Premier League campaign since relegation in 2022-23, with manager Daniel Farke rebuilding the squad for top-flight competition.
