The confrontation stems from passages in Vance's bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, where he describes attending a West Ham match during his time as a student in London. Vance characterised the atmosphere as "like a war zone" and made claims about extreme fan behaviour that Skinner and other supporters vehemently deny.
"You know what, you wrote a book about my football club, and you said it was like a war zone," Skinner states firmly in the video. "It's not a war zone. It's a family club."
