Tottenham's Yves Bissouma filmed inhaling laughing gas again, future in doubt
Tottenham's Bissouma filmed inhaling laughing gas again

The professional future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma at the club has been plunged into fresh uncertainty. This follows the emergence of a new video that appears to show the player inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, for a second time.

Second Incident Under Investigation

The Sun newspaper published footage reportedly filmed in the early hours of November 3, which shows Bissouma inhaling from a balloon. According to reports, the 29-year-old Mali international sent the video to a woman he had invited to a party in London.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed to the press that the club has launched an investigation into this latest incident. A club spokesperson stated, "We are looking into the events and it will be dealt with as an internal matter."

This development is particularly serious because possession of nitrous oxide for recreational use became a criminal offence in the United Kingdom in 2023. Individuals found guilty can face a prison sentence of up to two years.

A History of Disciplinary Issues

This is not the first time Bissouma has been disciplined for this behaviour. At the start of the 2023/24 season, then-manager Ange Postecoglou suspended him for one match after a similar video surfaced.

Despite issuing a public apology at the time, calling it a "severe lack of judgement" and acknowledging his role as a footballer and role model, the player has now been filmed again.

Bissouma's situation at Spurs has been deteriorating for months. He has not played for the club this season after being dropped by manager Thomas Frank for persistent lateness at the campaign's start. He was subsequently omitted from Tottenham's Champions League squad, though Frank suggested a route back remained open.

Compounding a Difficult Season

The midfielder's prospects have been further hampered by an ankle injury sustained while on international duty with Mali last month, which has kept him sidelined.

In a separate off-field issue, it was revealed in court during November that Bissouma was a victim of fraud, with £800,000 stolen from his Coutts bank account.

With his current contract expiring in June 2025 and the club holding a one-year option, his long-term future is now highly uncertain. Daily Mail Sport reported last month that Tottenham planned to trigger the option to preserve his transfer value if a January sale does not materialise. There was minor interest from Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray in the summer, but Spurs' £10m valuation for a player they signed from Brighton for £25m in 2022 deterred moves.

Bissouma, who has lived in England since joining Brighton from Lille in 2018, is understood to be settled and would prefer to continue his career in the Premier League.
