Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with manager Thomas Frank after a dismal run left the club in 16th place in the Premier League. The Danish coach, who joined from Brentford in June, was dismissed following an eight-match winless streak, with Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United proving the final straw. Spurs now sit just five points above the relegation zone.
During his brief tenure, Frank clashed with several players. After a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in November, defenders Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence refused his invitation to acknowledge fans and headed down the tunnel. Frank later said they apologised, citing frustration with the performance and booing.
Midfielder Yves Bissouma was dropped for the UEFA Super Cup match against PSG in August due to repeated lateness. Frank stated, 'He has been late several times, the latest one too many. We need to give love and have demands but there have to be consequences.'
In January, young forward Mathys Tel was visibly upset after being substituted in a 2-1 home loss to West Ham. Frank defended the decision, saying he needed to bring on two strikers and that Tel's performance was fine. The search for a successor is now underway.
