Thiago Alcantara Poised for Anfield Return in Liverpool Legends Charity Clash

Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is set to make a highly anticipated return to Anfield next month, as he joins a lineup of Reds legends for a charity fixture against Borussia Dortmund Legends. The Spanish maestro, who retired from professional football two years ago, will participate in the LFC Foundation match scheduled for Saturday, March 28.

A Memorable Liverpool Career

Liverpool secured Thiago's services from Bayern Munich in 2020 for a fee of £26 million. Over four seasons with the club, he made 98 appearances and scored three goals, playing a pivotal role in the team's FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs during the 2021-22 campaign. Despite being hampered by injuries, Thiago's exceptional ball control and precise distribution earned him adoration from the Kop, cementing his status as a fan favourite.

Thiago's Lasting Legacy in Liverpool

Thiago's connection with the city extended beyond the pitch. A year before his departure, he collaborated with The Alcantara Foundation and LFC Foundation to unveil a new play facility for children in the Toxteth area. Upon leaving Liverpool, he expressed deep gratitude, stating, "Thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of this city, this club and this community. The continuous support I have received since day one has been incredible: Anfield cheering, the Kop chanting... amazing, overwhelming. A very unique fan base for a unique club."

Star-Studded Lineup and Management

Thiago will be part of an impressive roster of Liverpool legends, including Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Vladimir Smicer, Natasha Dowie, and goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek and Pepe Reina. The management team for the charity match will see Jurgen Klopp return to the Anfield dugout to support manager Sir Kenny Dalglish, alongside club icons Ian Rush and John Aldridge.

Charity Impact and Recent Successes

All proceeds from the fixture will benefit the LFC Foundation and Forever Reds, supporting employability programmes that help individuals in the community gain qualifications, develop skills, and find employment. Liverpool Legends have enjoyed recent success in similar matches, defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in October with a goal from Ryan Babel, and beating the West London side at Anfield last March thanks to a brace from Peter Crouch.
