Hollywood icon Kevin Costner has taken a break from filming in Queensland to immerse himself in Australian culture by watching an AFL match. The Yellowstone star was spotted in the stands at the Gabba on Friday night as the Brisbane Lions hosted the Carlton Blues.
AFL commentator Brian Taylor expressed his astonishment upon seeing the A-lister standing in a corporate box with his entourage as the game kicked off. 'There's Kevin Costner. A bit of Hollywood royalty there. It doesn't get much bigger than Kevin Costner,' Taylor remarked.
Australian fans online quickly reacted to Costner's presence at the Gabba, with many referencing his iconic baseball film Field of Dreams by commenting 'if you build it, he will come.' Another fan joked, 'Maybe he knows how to get a free kick against Brisbane at the Gabba?'
Costner, a keen sports enthusiast, frequently attends games across various codes around the world. His visit to the AFL match is just one of many highlights during his stay in Australia, where he is filming the dramedy Honeymoon With Harry. The film also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Sarah Pidgeon, who recently portrayed Carolyn Bessette in Love Story. The plot follows a man, played by Gyllenhaal, who bonds with his fiancée's protective father, portrayed by Costner, during an unintended trip.
Earlier this week, the Oscar-winning actor was seen enjoying lunch with two friends at the exclusive Sails restaurant, which overlooks Noosa Main Beach. He graciously posed for selfies with fans and engaged in friendly conversation. Last weekend, influencer Kayla Boyd, wife of former NRL star Darius Boyd, encountered Costner and snapped a photo with him. 'Just a casual Saturday night with our mate Kev. Kind, humble - an absolute gentleman,' she wrote on social media.
Costner, 71, has also been spotted dining at SK Steak and Oyster restaurant in Fortitude Valley. During the AFL match, he watched the Lions defeat the Blues with a score of 100-89.
