Terry: Chelsea Only Team Who Can Stop Arsenal

Chelsea icon John Terry has thrown down the gauntlet, declaring his former team as the only serious challenger left to stop Arsenal from clinching the Premier League crown. The bold claim sets the stage for a monumental showdown at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.

The Title Race Landscape

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have surged into a commanding position, sitting six points clear at the summit of the Premier League. Their authority was stamped with a stunning 4-1 demolition of Tottenham in the North London Derby.

The Gunners' lead was extended further after a dramatic weekend saw their two main historical rivals falter. Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Newcastle, leaving them seven points adrift in third place. The defending champions, Liverpool, are in a state of crisis after a shocking 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest, which sees them languishing in 12th, a staggering 11 points off the pace.

Chelsea's Resurgence Under Maresca

This collapse from the traditional heavyweights has thrust Chelsea into the role of chief protagonist. Under manager Enzo Maresca, the Blues are now Arsenal's nearest challengers, occupying second place after a 2-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.

The West London club are building formidable momentum, having secured three consecutive league wins without conceding a single goal. A victory against the league leaders this weekend would see Chelsea slash the deficit at the top to just three points, dramatically intensifying the title battle.

Pundits Clash Over Arsenal's Mentality

Terry's analysis places him in direct opposition to fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher. Speaking on the title race, Terry stated in a TikTok video: "A big game at the weekend now as Arsenal come to the Bridge where it’s going to be a very big game. I’m not saying it’s going to be a title decider but I think it’s going to be one of the two teams [who win the league]. For me, Liverpool are 100 per cent out of the title race. Liverpool look like they’re really struggling at the moment."

Carragher, however, presented a contrasting viewpoint, insisting the only thing that can stop Arsenal is Arsenal themselves. He argued: "The only team that can stop Arsenal winning the league is Arsenal; they are the best team. They are the best squad. The only thing that can stop them is their own heads, their own mentality."

He suggested that the pressure of the run-in and a potentially nervous home crowd in March and April could be the Gunners' ultimate undoing, a scenario he described as them "throwing" the title away.

Terry also praised Chelsea's resilience in their win at Turf Moor, highlighting Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez as the goalscorers and noting the importance of defensive blocks, while also urging more clinical finishing against top-tier opposition.
