Steve Bruce has been appointed as the new manager of Blackpool, marking his return to football after nearly two years without a club. The 63-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the League One side, bringing in Steve Agnew as his assistant head coach. Richard Keogh and Stephen Dobbie will remain at the club as first team coaches.
Bruce replaces Neil Critchley, who was sacked after Blackpool lost their opening two league matches of the season. Keogh had been serving as interim manager. Bruce's last managerial role was at West Bromwich Albion, where he lasted just eight months before being dismissed after a poor start to the Championship season.
On his appointment, Bruce expressed his delight at returning to football and taking charge of Blackpool. He thanked the club's owners for the opportunity and looked forward to preparing for what he hopes will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road.
Blackpool owner Simon Sadler highlighted Bruce's experience and leadership qualities, as well as his ability to develop coaching talent. Sadler noted that Bruce's organised approach and desire to build a hardworking, entertaining side were key factors in his appointment.
Blackpool currently sit 22nd in League One with two draws and two defeats from their opening four matches. Their next fixture is at home against Exeter City on September 14.
