Tottenham's Vicario Booed by Own Fans After Costly Fulham Error
Spurs fans boo Vicario after goalkeeper's costly error

Tottenham Hotspur's weekend took a dramatic turn for the worse as goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario found himself at the centre of a storm during the 2-1 home defeat to Fulham on Saturday. The Italian's costly error led to a pivotal goal for the visitors and triggered an unexpected backlash from the home supporters.

Vicario's Costly Mistake Sparks Fan Fury

The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium turned sour early when Vicario's attempted clearance went horribly wrong. His poor kick fell directly to Fulham's Harry Wilson, who seized the opportunity to fire the ball into an unguarded net from distance. This goal proved decisive in the final outcome.

The immediate reaction from sections of the Spurs support was brutal. Fans began booing Vicario's every touch shortly after the seventh-minute error, creating a tense atmosphere for the remainder of the match.

Smith's Shock and Frank's Fury

Watching from the Sky Sports commentary box, Arsenal icon Alan Smith was taken aback by the severity of the fans' response. He described it as a career low point for the goalkeeper.

"Vicario is getting absolute pelters from his own supporters," Smith observed. "You don't often see that, do you? Fans booing one of their own, seven minutes into a match. Booing a goalkeeper as well, which is obviously a vital position for the team. That will certainly be a low point of Vicario's career... 50,000 of your own supporters booing you."

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank delivered an even stronger condemnation of the fans' behaviour, questioning their loyalty to the club.

"I didn't like that our fans booed at him straight after and a few times after that," Frank stated. "They can't be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you're on the pitch and we do everything we can to perform. I'm fine with them booing after the match, no problem, but not during. That is unacceptable in my opinion."

Looking Ahead After Tottenham's Setback

The defeat leaves Tottenham tenth in the Premier League table, compounding their disappointing home form this season. Vicario, who joined Spurs from Empoli in 2023 for approximately £17 million, has made 93 appearances for the club with 23 clean sheets.

The team now faces a quick turnaround to address their issues, with a midweek trip to Newcastle on Tuesday evening followed by a home fixture against Brentford next weekend.
