Morgan Gibbs-White’s anticipated £60m transfer to Tottenham Hotspur has been put on hold as Nottingham Forest considers legal action over an alleged illegal approach for the player. Forest is also preparing a complaint to the Premier League, arguing that Spurs’ conduct surrounding the proposed deal has been inappropriate.
It had been expected that the England midfielder would undergo a medical on Friday before completing the move, but those plans are now in doubt. Forest is consulting lawyers about potential legal action, believing they have not granted Spurs permission to speak with Gibbs-White and feeling there has been a breach of confidentiality regarding the release clause in his contract.
Despite the complications, Tottenham still intends to proceed with the deal as they look to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad. The club recently secured the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and has also tracked other Premier League attackers, including Crystal Palace and England forward Eberechi Eze, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling.
Both Nottingham Forest and Tottenham declined to comment when contacted. Forest currently considers the deal to be off, but their anger may delay rather than prevent the transfer from ultimately going through.
