Solskjaer Faces 5 Key Questions In Man Utd Interview

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set for talks with Manchester United officials about a potential return to Old Trafford as interim manager until the end of the season, replacing Ruben Amorim. The Norwegian previously held the role in 2018 after Jose Mourinho's departure and is now being considered again following a difficult campaign.

A major topic will be Solskjaer's tactical approach. During his first stint, he favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation, which brought immediate success with 14 wins in 19 games. This contrasts sharply with Amorim's rigid 3-4-3 system, which caused friction with football director Jason Wilcox. Caretaker boss Darren Fletcher recently used a 4-2-3-1 in a draw at Burnley, suggesting a shift may be welcomed.

Solskjaer will also need to address the form of striker Benjamin Sesko, who has scored only four goals since his £74m move from RB Leipzig. The Norwegian, who understands the pressure of leading United's attack, could provide guidance and support to unlock Sesko's potential.

Another question is whether Solskjaer would accept a permanent role if offered. Last time, his interim success led to a full-time appointment, but the relationship ended poorly in 2021. A second permanent stint may not satisfy fans, but a temporary arrangement could suit both parties.

Finally, Solskjaer must work with the current squad, as United chiefs are unlikely to provide significant transfer funds. Amorim was frustrated by a lack of backing, and Solskjaer will face similar constraints, especially in midfield and defence. He previously criticised player attitudes, saying some were 'not as good as their own perception of themselves.'
