Jadon Sancho has fired back at Manchester United fans who mocked his contribution to Aston Villa's run to the Europa League final. The 26-year-old winger took to social media while celebrating Villa's 4-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, as they made home advantage count in their semi-final second leg on Thursday.
Sancho has now reached a European final in each of the last three seasons, all during loan spells away from United. He played in the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund in 2024 before helping Chelsea win the Conference League final last year.
After the feat was posted on social media platform X, a United fan took a swipe. 'Let's have a quick look at @Sanchooo10's input in getting to those finals,' they posted. Sancho, who has featured in 12 of Villa's 14 Europa League games, scoring one goal, replied: 'Yeah, make sure you have a good look!'
Social Media Exchange
Another user defended Sancho by claiming that his performance against Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes in the 2024 Champions League semi-finals had been forgotten. The United loanee replied with a shrugging emoji. One United supporter took umbrage with his contribution this season, saying: 'Made a European final playing absolutely no part (he come on for 4 minutes tonight) and he's suddenly acting as if he's (Kylian) Mbappe. Shows his weak & poor mentality, m***.'
Sancho merely responded: 'Have a good night, bro!' The 23-time England international was also told that he'd 'peaked at 21' and was a 'nothing footballer' by a user named 'Christiano'. 'Just wondering, is your name actually Christiano?' Sancho quipped. When someone else noted that the 'real' Cristiano (Ronaldo) doesn't have an H in his name, Sancho said: 'I thought so,' with a face palm emoji.
The former Chelsea star then decided to call it a night on X, with his final post coming at 12.28am. 'Jokes aside Love n Hate today is for @AVFCOfficial goodnight Villans,' Sancho wrote. 'See you in Istanbul!'
Contract Situation
Despite reaching the aforementioned finals, both Dortmund and Chelsea opted not to sign Sancho permanently. The winger sees his contract with United expire this summer and will be available on a free transfer. Villa boss Unai Emery hasn't ruled out a permanent stay, though, saying in February: 'He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here. If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved in the interest for him.'
