The crisis at Salford Red Devils has deepened after chief operating officer Claire Bradbury resigned, alleging the club's ownership made inappropriate comments, and the Super League fixture against Wakefield was called off due to welfare concerns.
Bradbury, who joined from Sale Sharks last year, said she faced 'misogynistic language' from the ownership, including a suggestion she 'sleep with someone at the RFL' to alleviate financial troubles. She added that repeated salary delays and lack of operational support hindered staff performance.
Salford responded by announcing an internal investigation, but the situation worsened when the club conceded to the RFL that Sunday's match should be cancelled. With only 17 available players, two with Super League experience, the side would have been predominantly teenagers. Many clubs refused to loan players after last week's 80-6 defeat to Hull FC.
The club, taken over by a consortium led by Dario Berta in 2025, has faced late payments, a near-£700,000 unpaid tax bill, and mass player departures. The RFL, Rugby League Commercial, and Rugby League Cares have been in discussions with Salford.
Salford will likely forfeit the game 48-0 but hope to field a stronger side against Leigh next week. However, it is probable the club will be removed from Super League in 2026 following a turbulent year.
