Rico Lewis has insisted he has never imagined playing for any club other than Manchester City, despite strong links with a move to Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old right-back, a product of City's youth academy, is approaching a century of appearances for the Premier League champions and recently set up Erling Haaland's goal in a 4-0 win over Wolves.
Forest have already signed his clubmate James McAtee for £30 million this weekend, and they are reportedly keen to add Lewis to their ranks. However, the England hopeful remains committed to City, stating that he has always wanted to play for the club he supports.
Speaking after the Wolves match, Lewis acknowledged his desire for regular first-team football as he aims to secure a place in England's World Cup squad next summer. “Everyone wants assurance and security, but at the end of the day, it’s on me to perform and take my chances,” he said.
He added: “Last season I played more than the season before. This season I want to play more than last season, so it’s always the same goal, becoming an established player.”
