ITV viewers are set to be treated to a brand-new crime drama set in Bristol later this year, with Richard Armitage starring as a forensic pathologist in the six-part series Winter. The actor, known for his roles in The Hobbit and Berlin Station, plays Dr Ethan Winter, a brilliant yet unconventional pathologist at the heart of a compelling thriller.
Plot and Cast
The series follows Dr Ethan Winter, one of the most gifted pathologists of his generation, whose exceptional analytical ability and instinct for reading victims make him an invaluable asset to murder investigations. His unorthodox, rule-breaking methods bring him into partnership with DI Lauren Bell, played by Annabel Scholey, a meticulous and driven detective. Together, they form a formidable team, combining forensic insight with sharp investigative work to solve complex cases.
Each episode presents a standalone crime, while a deeper, overarching narrative gradually unfolds throughout the series. Tormented by the unsolved murder of someone close to him, Dr Winter is carrying out his own unofficial investigation, a perilous pursuit that threatens to overwhelm him entirely.
Supporting Cast
Joining Richard Armitage and Annabel Scholey are Jamie Kenna, best known for his roles in House of the Dragon and Brassic; Carlotta Banat from Heads of State and 3 Body Problem; and Josh Barrow from Hostage, Vera, and Dear England. ITV audiences will also see Adwoa Akoto, Jay Taylor, Rishi Rian, Deirdre Mullins, Ellis Elijah, and Evie Coles in the six-part series.
Fan Reactions
Earlier this year, ITV released photographs of Richard and Annabel at the read-through of the new drama, with the duo beaming at the camera. Viewers were swift to respond, with many expressing enthusiasm for the new crime drama. One person said: "Cannot wait for this one." Another wrote: "It's going to be brilliant, I can't wait." A third commented: "Oh, this will be good - much like Red Eye, which was fantastic." One fan shared: "Wow, two favourites in one programme, can't wait." While another commented: "Hope it is as great as Red Eye."
