Benni McCarthy thanks South African fans for 'crazy' support at Manchester United

Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy has expressed his gratitude to South African fans for their 'crazy' support during his first season at Old Trafford. The former Blackburn Rovers striker joined United's coaching staff last summer under Erik ten Hag.

McCarthy has been credited with helping transform Marcus Rashford's form this season, with the England forward enjoying the best spell of his career. His multilingual skills have also helped unite United's dressing room, which had been fractured in previous campaigns.

In an interview with the Idiski Times, McCarthy acknowledged the fervent backing from South African supporters, who have frequently made his name trend on Twitter during United matches. 'That also shows you the magnitude of the club,' he said. 'South Africans, how crazy they are for Man United, and the fact that they have one of their own representing there is amazing.'

McCarthy also congratulated Burnley's Lyle Foster on securing Premier League promotion, noting that two South Africans will now be in the league. He praised Ten Hag's humility and tactical vision, saying, 'I want to learn as much as I can from Ten Hag. He has such humility... He is top, top, top-notch.'
