The draw for the Champions League last-16 will take place on Friday, with Premier League clubs now aware of their potential opponents following the conclusion of the play-off round. Six English sides remain in the competition, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.
Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, automatically qualified for the knockout stages. They face a choice between Atletico Madrid, who defeated Club Brugge in the play-offs, or Galatasaray, who overcame Juventus after extra time. Arsenal, also automatic qualifiers, could face Bayer Leverkusen or Atalanta, the latter having mounted a stunning comeback against Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester City, who also secured their place directly, will be paired with either Bodo/Glimt or Real Madrid. Both sides met City in the group phase, with Bodo/Glimt impressing in the play-offs by beating Inter, while Real Madrid laboured to overcome Benfica. Chelsea and Newcastle both emerged from the play-offs, with the Blues seeing off Qarabag 9-2 on aggregate. Chelsea could face fellow Premier League side Newcastle or Paris Saint-Germain, while Newcastle's other potential opponent is Barcelona.
The last-16 draw will also determine the potential route to the final, which is scheduled to take place in Budapest. Each Premier League side now has two possible opponents, reducing the uncertainty ahead of Friday's ceremony.
