Yorkshire Wildlife Park to reopen after tiger attack closure

Yorkshire Wildlife Park is set to reopen on Monday after being closed for the weekend following an incident in which a man was attacked by one of its tigers. The man gained access to the tiger enclosure and sustained severe injuries, dying as a result of the attack.

Incident and closure

South Yorkshire Police were called to the park at approximately 1.35pm on Saturday, October 10. Following the tragedy, black barriers were placed around the enclosure and the facility was cleared of all visitors. The Doncaster wildlife destination remained closed on Sunday.

Multiple ambulances and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene at the time of the incident. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the man's family have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.

Reopening and tiger update

According to the park's website, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is scheduled to reopen on Monday, October 12, with opening hours from 9.45am. The attraction will stay open until 5pm, with final admission at 3pm.

The park has confirmed that the tiger, Altai, will not be destroyed following the incident. A statement issued on Sunday said: "We would like to thank everyone who was expressed their concern following yesterday's tragic incident. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies remain with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly lost his life."

The statement added: "The park will be closed today while the staff team who were deeply affected by events receive specialist support. Many, many people have contacted us about Altai, the tiger. We can reassure everyone that he is safe and well and will not be euthanised as a result of this incident."
