Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has delivered a scathing assessment of Nottingham Forest's capitulation against Chelsea, suggesting they got exactly what they deserved after their timid approach at Stamford Bridge.
The Australian boss, known for his uncompromising football philosophy, didn't mince his words when analysing Forest's 3-1 defeat, which saw them collapse after taking an early lead through former Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón.
Forest's Mentality Questioned
Postecoglou was particularly critical of Forest's mentality after they went ahead, accusing them of inviting pressure rather than continuing to play positive football.
"When you score early away from home, you have a choice," Postecoglou stated. "You can either try to build on that or you can try to hang on. They chose the latter and against a quality side like Chelsea, you're going to get punished."
Chelsea's Dominant Response
The Blues responded emphatically to going behind, with Raheem Sterling equalising before Mykhailo Mudryk put the hosts ahead just before half-time. The victory was sealed in the second period through Nicolas Jackson's header.
Postecoglou noted that Chelsea's quality ultimately told, but maintained that Forest's approach played directly into the hands of Mauricio Pochettino's side.
Warning for Premier League Survival
With Forest still hovering just two points above the relegation zone, Postecoglou's comments serve as a stark warning about the perils of negative football in the Premier League.
"At this level, if you're not brave and you're not willing to play your football for the whole game, you'll get found out," he warned. "It's a lesson every team has to learn, but some learn it the hard way."
The Tottenham manager's frank assessment provides fascinating insight into the mindset that has made his team one of the most exciting to watch in the division this season.
