Middlesbrough Turn to Sweden for New Leadership
Middlesbrough Football Club has officially announced Kim Hellberg as their new head coach, filling the vacancy created by Rob Edwards's sudden departure to Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.
A New Era Begins on Teesside
The 37-year-old manager arrives from Swedish outfit Hammarby and has been appointed on a permanent basis. His appointment concludes a swift search by the Championship club after Edwards opted to leave for the top-flight side. Hellberg is scheduled to formally take charge later this week.
In the interim, Adi Viveash will oversee Tuesday's Championship clash at home to Coventry City. The team's first match since Edwards's exit resulted in a 1-1 draw against Oxford United this past weekend, leaving them seven points behind league leaders Coventry.
Hellberg's Ambitious Vision for Boro
In his first statement to the club, Hellberg expressed his pride and outlined his tactical philosophy. "I'm delighted to have been appointed as Boro's head coach and I'm very proud to be here," he told the official Middlesbrough website.
"I want us to play quick and aggressive football and to try to win the ball as quickly as possible if we don't have it," Hellberg added, signalling his intent. "I want us to be quick on goal and create a lot of chances." He also noted he has been "very impressed with the players" and is looking forward to starting work with the squad.
Despite the recent managerial disruption, Middlesbrough remain in the automatic promotion places, sitting three points clear of Stoke City in the play-off positions, presenting Hellberg with a strong platform to build upon.
