Lisandro Martinez did not hold back in his criticism after Manchester United's dismal 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
A Costly Stalemate at the Theatre of Dreams
The Argentine defender was visibly furious as Manchester United were booed off the pitch following a performance that saw them surrender a lead against the Premier League's bottom club. The visitors, who were winless in their previous 18 matches and had lost 16 of those, managed to claw back a point thanks to Ladislav Krejci's first-half equaliser.
Joshua Zirkzee had initially put the Red Devils ahead, but Krejci's strike just before the interval silenced the home crowd. The result, which halted any momentum United had been building, leaves Ruben Amorim's side in sixth place, missing a crucial chance to leap into the top four.
Martinez's Blunt Assessment
In a post-match interview brimming with frustration, Martinez laid bare the team's failings. "Really disappointed. We can't come here at home and draw this game," he stated. "We have to win when we play at home. The opponent has to suffer and we didn't get the three points."
While he acknowledged that Wolves' league position was not a fair reflection of their quality, Martinez insisted the responsibility lay with his own team. He pointed to a drop in intensity after taking the lead, which allowed Wolves' defenders to play comfortably and create spaces. "We have to take more risks," he admitted, summing up the mood in a disappointed dressing room.
Neville Questions United's Setup
The poor display did not go unnoticed by pundits either. Former United captain Gary Neville was scathing in his analysis on Sky Sports, suggesting the problems were systemic. "This isn't right again," Neville said. "I'm really surprised... it was on the head coach to take responsibility."
The draw, which took Wolves' points tally from two to three, was their first point since October. For Manchester United, it represents a significant setback in their pursuit of Champions League football and raises further questions about their consistency at Old Trafford this season.
