Amorim Slams 'Entitled' Man Utd Academy Duo After Instagram Clash
Man Utd boss Amorim brands academy players 'entitled'

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has launched a stinging critique of the club's culture, branding two academy prospects 'entitled' after they responded to his public comments via social media posts.

Social Media Spat Sparks Managerial Ire

The row erupted after Amorim discussed the development of young players Harry Amass and Chido Obi last week. He noted that Amass was currently 'struggling' during a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, while Obi was not a regular starter for United's Under-21 side.

On Monday 19 December 2025, after these remarks circulated, both 18-year-olds took to Instagram. Amass posted a photo of himself holding a Player of the Month trophy from his time at Sheffield Wednesday. Obi shared an image celebrating a goal for the U21s.

Amorim's Blunt Assessment of Club Culture

Speaking ahead of United's match against Bournemouth, Amorim did not back down. He insisted his original observations were not negative but intended to highlight the privilege of representing Manchester United. The players' reaction, however, confirmed a deeper issue in his view.

'I think it is the feeling of entitlement that we have in our club,' Amorim stated. 'Sometimes strong words are not bad words... We don't need to always have accolades in every situation, we are not helping.'

He expanded on this, suggesting the incident was symptomatic of a wider problem. 'They feel free to respond to the manager with a picture. My office is open, nobody is coming to talk to me. I think we need to change first as a club and then everything is going to change.'

An Open Door and a Call for Change

The Portuguese coach reiterated that his door remained open for a private conversation, emphasising that his criticism was meant to be constructive. 'I didn't say anything wrong. I just spoke about the luck of playing for Manchester United,' he explained.

Amorim concluded by expressing his hope that attitudes would evolve over time, stating, 'Let's move on and with time I think these things will change.' The episode underscores the ongoing challenges at Old Trafford as the new manager seeks to instil a different mentality, starting with the club's promising young talents.
