Former Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has suggested that Rodri's future at the Etihad could be pivotal in the battle between City and Manchester United for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson. The 23-year-old midfielder, valued at £100 million, is expected to leave the City Ground this summer, with City, United, Chelsea, and Tottenham all interested.
Barry, speaking via BetMGM, advised Anderson to consider game time when choosing his next club. “If Rodri stays at Manchester City, then he probably has less chance of playing as many games, although he would still get game time,” Barry said. He also highlighted the uncertainty around managerial situations at both clubs as factors Anderson would weigh.
Rodri's own future remains uncertain. The Spain international, whose contract expires at the end of next season, hinted last month that he could be open to joining Real Madrid. However, City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed confidence that Rodri will sign a new deal, while also acknowledging that he would not block a move if Madrid came calling.
Real Madrid are reportedly admirers of Rodri and may enter the market for a midfielder this summer, with Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni expected to be sold. Anderson, who joined Forest from Newcastle in 2024, has established himself as one of the Premier League's top young midfielders.
