Manchester United are pushing ahead with transfer activity and their search for a new manager, despite the ongoing uncertainty over who will take the permanent reins at Old Trafford.
The club, currently under the interim stewardship of Darren Fletcher, are preparing for an FA Cup third-round clash with Brighton this weekend. This comes after a 2-2 draw with Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday, a result that leaves them seventh in the table.
Winger Mather Set for Turkish Move
United have agreed terms for the departure of young winger Sam Mather to Turkish Süper Lig side Kayserispor. The 21-year-old academy product, who never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils, is poised to become the club's first exit of the January window.
Reports indicate that Mather was seen at Kayserispor's training facilities and has already been pictured in the club's training kit. A deal, for an undisclosed fee, was initially meant to happen last summer but is now finally set to be completed.
Mather, whose United contract ran until 2027, will join Kayserispor's training camp in Antalya as he seeks to kickstart his senior career away from Manchester.
Solskjaer Open to Shock Interim Return
In a major development regarding the managerial situation, former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly held face-to-face talks about a potential interim return to the club.
Solskjaer, who was sacked by United in November 2021, is said to be open to the idea of taking temporary charge. This follows the dismissal of Ruben Amorim after just 14 months at the helm.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, "conversations are going quite well" but timing is a crucial factor. Former midfielder Michael Carrick is also understood to be a candidate for the short-term role.
The United hierarchy, led by Darren Fletcher for now, are keen to make the correct decision at the right time, with a Manchester derby looming in the league after the cup tie against Brighton.
