Manchester City have signed a new contract with Puma worth at least £1bn, making it the first £1bn deal in English football. The £100m-a-year agreement extends their partnership until at least 2035, a significant increase from the previous £65m-a-year deal that was due to run until 2029.
The contract sets a new record for annual value in the Premier League. In comparison, Manchester United sealed a 10-year deal with Adidas worth about £900m in July 2023, while Liverpool agreed a multi-year deal with Adidas thought to be worth £60m per season four months ago.
Since City’s partnership with Puma began in 2019, Pep Guardiola’s side have won four Premier League titles and became the second English club to achieve the treble. Ferran Soriano, chief executive of City Football Group, said: “We joined forces with Puma with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons.”
Puma is also a partner of several other City Football Group clubs, including Melbourne City, Girona, Lommel, Mumbai City, Montevideo, Palermo, Bolivia, Bahia and Estac.
In a separate move, former City, Arsenal and Liverpool defender Kolo Touré has been appointed to Guardiola’s backroom staff on a permanent basis. The 44-year-old, who served as assistant first-team coach during the recent Club World Cup campaign, will remain in place full-time.
