Liverpool's Alisson Injured Out Of Galatasaray Match

Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Galatasaray on Tuesday after he was injured in training. The Brazilian felt discomfort at the end of Monday's session and will not be risked, with Giorgi Mamardashvili taking his place in Istanbul.

Alisson has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season and was in goal for the 3-1 FA Cup win over Wolves on Friday. However, the 21-man squad for the trip confirms his absence, with Freddie Woodman stepping up from third choice to sit on the bench as Mamardashvili's understudy.

Mamardashvili, who joined Liverpool from Valencia for £25 million in the summer, has started nine games for the club, seven of which came when Alisson was unavailable through injury. He recently spoke about his mindset, saying: 'It is never easy because there is just one goal. If I don't play, I don't mind. I have to work hard every day and that's it. My time will come for sure.'

Federico Chiesa is also missing from the travelling party after being unable to take part in Monday's training session. The Italian forward was a late substitute in the midweek defeat by Wolves and was then left on the bench for the FA Cup rematch.

Liverpool return to Champions League action having bypassed the play-off stage due to their top-eight finish in the league phase. Galatasaray advanced with a 7-5 aggregate win over Juventus and beat Liverpool 1-0 in the league phase back in September.
