World number one Luke Littler delivered a commanding performance to defeat two-time world champion Gary Anderson 10-5 in the sixth round of the UK Open, advancing to the quarter-finals in Minehead and keeping his title defence firmly on track. The match showcased Littler's power scoring and consistency, as he finished with an impressive 101 match average.
Littler's Dominant Display Secures Victory
Littler raced into an early 4-1 lead in the evening session, building on his momentum from a hard-fought fifth-round win over Kevin Doets earlier in the day. Anderson, who had beaten Martin Schindler to reach this stage, briefly threatened a comeback by stealing the seventh leg against the darts. However, Littler quickly reasserted control, extending his advantage to 7-3 at the next interval.
Heavy Scoring Seals the Win
Following the restart, Littler maintained his aggressive approach with more heavy scoring, effectively taking the match away from Anderson. The world number one sealed the victory in the 16th leg by pinning tops, dispatching Anderson with authority. His 101 average underscored a clinical performance that highlighted his status as the tournament favourite.
Other Evening Session Results
In other matches during Saturday's evening session, Josh Rock edged out Stephen Bunting 10-7 in a tight contest on the main stage, finishing with a match average just over 93. On stage two, Premier League leader Jonny Clayton defeated Martin Lukeman 10-7, hitting eight maximums in the process, while Rob Cross secured a 10-6 victory over Daryl Gurney.
Littler's progression sets up an exciting finals day, as he continues his bid to retain the UK Open crown amidst strong competition from fellow top players.
