Zoë Kravitz Slams 'Tacky' Hulu Harry Styles Reference in Axed Show Promo
Zoë Kravitz Slams 'Tacky' Hulu Harry Styles Reference

Zoë Kravitz has publicly criticised Hulu after the streaming platform used a reference to her rumoured fiancé Harry Styles to promote her cancelled series High Fidelity, branding the move 'tacky'.

Background of the Controversy

The American actress, 37, was photographed alongside the British pop star, 32, in Rome last year. The couple subsequently travelled together to cities including London and New York, before it emerged several weeks ago that they had become engaged after eight months of dating. While neither has officially confirmed the news, Zoë has been photographed sporting a sizeable diamond on her ring finger – something she appeared keen to conceal during her appearance at the Met Gala earlier this week.

Hulu's Promotional Post

Last week, US streaming platform Hulu shared a since-deleted post featuring Zoë's character from High Fidelity, Robyn 'Rob' Brooks, with the caption: 'Robyn Brooks definitely has Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally on her playlist.' This is the title of Harry Styles' latest album, which dropped in March. The actress was clearly unimpressed, firing back with the comment 'this is tacky' on the post and tagging the Disney-owned platform directly.

About the Series

Zoë starred in the romantic comedy back in 2020, which was adapted from Nick Hornby's 1995 novel of the same name and its 2000 film version. She portrayed Robyn 'Rob' Brooks, a young record shop owner who looks back on her previous relationships through the lens of music and popular culture. Despite the series earning glowing reviews from both critics and audiences, with the actress herself being described as 'magnetic', it was axed after just one series.

Zoë's Previous Comments on the Axing

When the series was cancelled, Zoë shared a since-deleted Instagram post paying tribute to her castmates and crew. 'I wanna give a shout out to my #highfidelity family. Thank you for all the love and heart you put into this show. I'm in awe of all of you. And thank you to everyone who watched, loved and supported us. #breakupssuck,' she said. In the comments, actress Tessa Thompson wrote: 'I will miss you alllllllllllll so much.' Then seemingly criticising Hulu for their lack of diversity, Zoë, who also served as an executive producer on the programme, wrote: 'It's cool. At least Hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of colour we can watch. Oh wait...'

Zoë's Career and Personal Life

The daughter of actress Lisa and musician Lenny Kravitz, Zoë made her breakthrough in X-Men: First Class in 2011 and has since starred in the Fantastic Beasts franchise and The Batman, alongside roles in Big Little Lies and The Studio TV series. She was wed to American actor Karl Glusman for two years before their separation in 2021 and was subsequently engaged to Channing Tatum, though they ended their relationship in October 2024.
