Adults Banned for Life After Violent Brawl at Under-14s Football Match in Bridgend
Adults involved in a shocking brawl that erupted during an under-14s football match in Bridgend have been handed lifetime bans following the conclusion of an internal investigation by Trefelin BGC. The disgraceful scenes, which saw grown adults storm onto the pitch and engage in physical confrontations, have sparked widespread outrage across social media and the local community.
Violence Erupts in Front of Young Players
The incident occurred late in Saturday's fixture between Aberkenfig BGC and Trefelin BGC, held at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen in Tondu. Video footage widely circulated on social media shows adults grappling and throwing punches, with the match being called off by the referee after approximately 90 seconds of fighting. Spectators were heard crying out, "It's just a game" and "You've got your boys watching," highlighting the inappropriate behaviour in front of young children, some of whom were spotted trying to intervene.
Club Investigations and Lifetime Bans
Both clubs confirmed over the weekend that internal investigations had been launched. Trefelin BGC has since announced that its inquiry has concluded, with those involved receiving lifetime bans from the club. In a statement posted on social media, the club said, "Following the incident on the weekend, an internal investigation has been conducted, and individuals involved have been handed a life ban by Trefelin BGC. Further investigations are in the hands of the relevant governing bodies. We will not be making any further comments."
Aberkenfig BGC had previously described themselves as "extremely disappointed" by the incident and issued an apology to match officials, players, and the wider football community, confirming they would put together a full report for the relevant authorities. Trefelin BGC also stated earlier, "As a club we have been made aware of an incident on social media. Trefelin BGC certainly don't condone this behaviour and are awaiting reports from the relevant match and league officials. We are also conducting an internal investigation. Updates will be made in due course."
Ongoing Reviews and Social Media Outrage
The governing bodies are now understood to be looking into the matter, with the possibility of additional sanctions following their review. The incident is thought to have taken place shortly after a player was dismissed late in the match, though both clubs have emphasised that investigations remain ongoing. The footage has led to widespread alarm on social media, with many voicing concerns about the example being set in front of young players. Further developments are anticipated once the governing bodies bring their inquiries to a close.
