Liam Rosenior Confirms Chelsea Move After Verbal Agreement
Liam Rosenior agrees to become Chelsea head coach

Liam Rosenior has confirmed he is set to become the new head coach of Chelsea, leaving his post at the club's partner side, Strasbourg.

Verbal Agreement Reached

The former Hull City manager revealed at a press conference in France that a verbal agreement is in place with the Premier League giants. Rosenior stated he has not yet signed a contract but expects the formalities to be completed imminently.

"I haven't signed yet, I have agreed verbally with Chelsea," Rosenior told reporters. "Everything is agreed and it will probably go through in the next few hours." He emphasised the unusual nature of announcing the move before putting pen to paper, but felt it was important to address Strasbourg's media and supporters directly before departing.

An Opportunity Too Big To Refuse

Rosenior explained that the chance to take over at Stamford Bridge, following Enzo Maresca's acrimonious departure last week, was simply unmissable. "I have had interest from many clubs, including Champions League clubs," he said. "I will love this club [Strasbourg] for the rest of my life but I cannot turn down Chelsea."

He leaves Strasbourg with the club sitting seventh in Ligue 1, praising the "incredible memories" and "history" made during his 18-month tenure, which began in July 2024.

Navigating a Unique Club Structure

The move required careful negotiation within the BlueCo multi-club model, which owns both Chelsea and Strasbourg. The investment vehicle had to balance the needs of both clubs, with Strasbourg now seeking a replacement manager; Wolves' Gary O'Neil is reportedly a candidate.

Rosenior's existing relationships with several of Chelsea's sporting directors are believed to have smoothed the path. He is seen as a progressive coach whose tactical approach will not require a drastic shift from the style implemented by his predecessor, Maresca.

Chelsea, currently fifth in the Premier League, face a busy schedule with a trip to Fulham on Wednesday and a Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal next week.
