Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has shared his thoughts on why Liverpool won't clinch the Premier League title this season, despite their strong performances.
Lescott, who won two Premier League titles with City, believes that Liverpool's lack of squad depth compared to rivals like Manchester City and Arsenal will ultimately cost them in the gruelling title race.
Lescott's Key Concerns
Speaking candidly, Lescott highlighted several factors that could hinder Liverpool's chances:
- Squad Depth: "When you look at City and Arsenal, they have quality in every position. Liverpool rely heavily on their starting XI," Lescott explained.
- Injury Risks: "One or two key injuries could derail their season. They don't have the same bench strength as their rivals."
- Fixture Congestion: "With European commitments and domestic cups, the schedule is brutal. City have shown they can handle it better."
The Manchester City Factor
Lescott, who knows what it takes to win titles with City, believes Pep Guardiola's side remain the team to beat:
"City have been here before. They know how to grind out results when it matters. That experience is priceless in a title race," he said.
The former England international did praise Liverpool's progress under Jurgen Klopp but maintained that this season might come too soon for their latest title challenge.
