NBA Star Fires Back Over 'Disturbing' Podcast Comments
Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson has launched a furious social media attack against former NBA players Pat Beverley and Jason Williams, branding their conversation about his girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, as 'disgusting and disturbing'.
The controversy erupted during the latest episode of the 'Hoopin' N Hollering' podcast, co-hosted by Beverley and Williams. While discussing Thompson's on-court struggles this season, Williams made a vile sexual remark, suggesting the new romance could be to blame for his dip in form.
'It only takes one p**** to drag a battleship across the desert,' the ex-NBA Champion said. 'That's how powerful it is.' Williams added, 'Klay Thompson, I ain't sayin' that's what it is. But that might be what it is.'
Thompson's Immediate Social Media Rebuttal
After hearing the offensive comments, Thompson did not hesitate to respond. He directly addressed both former players in the comments section of the podcast's Instagram post.
'Referring to my GF as a “p***y” is so disgusting and disturbing,' Thompson wrote. 'Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way ? @patbev21.'
He concluded his powerful statement with a call for change, writing, 'Do better fellas. Very disappointing.'
A High-Profile Romance and On-Court Challenges
Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion officially announced their relationship to the public over the summer and have since become one of America's most recognisable celebrity couples. Their relationship went Instagram official after Thompson was spotted in the background of one of her holiday photos.
The couple's popularity was further cemented when a recent Instagram post from Megan, hinting that they were moving in together, garnered more than two million likes online. The rapper also dedicated her new single, 'Lover Girl,' to her boyfriend.
However, while his personal life is flourishing, Thompson's performance on the basketball court has faced significant challenges. He is currently shooting just 31.4 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from 3-point range, which would both represent career lows if they do not improve this season.
As a result, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has given some of Thompson's minutes to veteran guard D'Angelo Russell. The 35-year-old Thompson, who has suffered major injuries including a torn ACL and a ruptured Achilles tendon, has seen his form decline amidst the team's 3-8 record.
Last month, Megan Thee Stallion made her debut as an NBA WAG, cheering on Thompson courtside during a pre-season game where the Mavericks recorded a 121-94 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
