Kai Rooney, the 16-year-old son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, is making strides in the club's academy. Currently part of the youth setup, the young attacker is aiming to follow his father's path into the senior team at Old Trafford.
In the 2021/22 season, Kai scored 56 goals and provided 28 assists for the Under-12 side, directly contributing to 84 goals. He has continued his form this season, scoring four goals for the Under-16s earlier this month and making appearances for the Under-18s despite being one of the youngest eligible players.
In four Under-18 outings off the bench, Kai has scored once in just over 60 minutes of total playing time. His record is impressive, though it falls short of his father's remarkable youth achievements. Wayne Rooney scored 114 goals in 29 appearances for Everton's Under-10 and Under-11 teams in 1995/96 and netted 99 goals for Copplehouse at age nine.
Kai's steady progress at Carrington offers hope that the Rooney name may again feature on the Old Trafford scoresheet. While his development has been at a more measured pace than his father's, he continues to sharpen his finishing instincts against high-level academy opposition.
