Liverpool owner John W. Henry has ended a five-year social media hiatus with a cryptic post on X, while Federico Chiesa has pulled out of the Italy squad due to fitness concerns. The developments come during the international break after Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat at Brighton, their tenth league loss of the season, leaving them five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa in the race for Champions League qualification.
Henry, 76, who has owned Liverpool for nearly 16 years, replied to a post from Boston Globe reporter Dan Shaughnessy with the word 'Historic'. Shaughnessy had reversed his criticism of NESN, a network 80% owned by Fenway Sports Group, after admitting a misunderstanding. Henry's wife, Liza Pizzuti, is active on social media and previously posted about FSG's 15-year anniversary at Liverpool.
Federico Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus for £10 million in 2024, withdrew from Italy's World Cup qualifiers after being assessed at the Federal Technical Centre. The Italian FA stated he was deemed unavailable for matches against Northern Ireland and a potential playoff, and has been replaced by Bologna's Nicolò Cambiaghi. Chiesa has not played for Italy since Euro 2024.
Liverpool face a challenging run-in with games against Everton, Manchester United, Chelsea, Brentford, and Villa among their final seven Premier League fixtures. The Reds must improve form to secure a top-four finish and a place in next season's Champions League.
