Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has finally spoken out about the swirling rumours linking star striker Alexander Isak with a sensational move to Liverpool. The Magpies' boss admitted the ongoing speculation has become an unwelcome distraction as the club prepares for the new season.
Isak's Future in the Balance
The Swedish international has emerged as a prime target for Liverpool this summer, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly keen to bolster his attacking options. Howe confirmed the club has received no official bids but acknowledged the situation is far from ideal.
'It's never helpful when there's constant speculation about your players,' Howe told reporters. 'Alex is a fantastic professional, but of course these things can become distractions.'
Newcastle's Stance on Potential Sale
Despite financial fair play concerns, Newcastle remain determined to keep hold of their £60m record signing. The 23-year-old forward enjoyed a stellar debut season at St James' Park, netting 10 Premier League goals despite injury setbacks.
'We want to build our team around players of Alex's quality,' Howe emphasised. 'He's integral to our plans and we're not looking to sell.'
Liverpool's Pursuit Continues
The Reds view Isak as the perfect long-term successor to their ageing forward line. With his pace, technical ability and Premier League experience, the former Real Sociedad man ticks all the boxes for Klopp's system.
Howe refused to be drawn on whether Newcastle would consider any astronomical offers, but insisted: 'The most important thing is what Alex wants. He seems happy here, but in football you never know.'
As the transfer window enters its final weeks, this saga looks set to dominate headlines until a resolution is reached.
