Harry Kane is closing in on Pelé's international goal record as he prepares for England's final World Cup qualifier against Albania. The England captain has 76 goals from 111 caps, just one shy of the Brazil legend's 77 from 92 appearances. Kane has scored 23 goals in 17 games for Bayern Munich this season and has failed to score in only six matches for club and country.
Kane's focus remains on team success, with the World Cup and Champions League his priorities. He acknowledged that individual honours like the Ballon d'Or depend on winning major trophies. 'I could score 100 goals this season, but if I don't win the Champions League or the World Cup, you're probably not going to win the Ballon d'Or,' he said.
England have won all seven qualifiers with seven clean sheets, securing their place at next summer's finals. Kane believes the squad culture has improved under Thomas Tuchel after a blip last year when withdrawals undermined a Nations League game. 'We're trending in the right direction on the pitch and off it,' he said.
Tuchel has emphasised commitment to the collective, with Kane playing a key role in reinforcing the message. After qualification was secured, Kane addressed the squad, urging everyone to maintain momentum. 'Representing your country is the biggest honour,' he said, citing Marc Guéhi's decision to report despite injury as an example of the right mentality.
