Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has delivered a brutally honest verdict on Jack Grealish's challenging season following the £100 million winger's shocking omission from England's Euro 2024 squad.
The Spanish tactician didn't mince words when discussing Grealish's situation after Gareth Southgate axed the 28-year-old from his final 26-man squad for Germany, alongside fellow City teammate Harry Maguire.
Guardiola's Frank Assessment
"I completely agree with Gareth's decision," Guardiola stated unequivocally. "This season, Jack simply hasn't performed at the level required for international football. When you look at the competition in those attacking positions - the incredible form of players like Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, and Eberechi Eze - the selection speaks for itself."
Guardiola's comments come after a difficult campaign for Grealish, who managed just three goals and three assists across all competitions for the Premier League champions. The former Aston Villa captain found himself in and out of the starting lineup throughout the season, with Jeremy Doku often preferred in big matches.

The City manager emphasised that this summer represents a critical period of reflection for Grealish: "Sometimes football gives you these moments to look in the mirror. Jack needs this summer to reset, to analyse what he truly wants, and to return with the hunger that made him such an important player for us in previous seasons."
Guardiola's relationship with Grealish has always been characterised by tough love, but the manager's latest comments suggest he believes this setback could ultimately prove beneficial for the player's development.

While Grealish watches the tournament from home, his City teammate Phil Foden heads to Germany as the Premier League Player of the Season and a certain starter for England. The contrast between their campaigns couldn't be more stark, with Foden's 27 goal contributions dwarfing Grealish's output.
