Gabriel Jesus Discloses Arsenal Teammates Mocked His Title Aspirations

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has revealed that some of his teammates laughed at him when he expressed his ambitions to win the Premier League title after joining the club. The Brazilian forward, who signed from Manchester City in a £45 million deal in 2022, made the surprising admission in a recent interview.

From Manchester City Success to Arsenal Skepticism

During his tenure at Manchester City, Gabriel Jesus secured an impressive four Premier League titles, establishing himself as a proven winner. Upon his arrival at Arsenal, he immediately voiced his desire to add another championship medal to his collection. However, this ambition was met with skepticism from within the squad.

"A few of them laughed," Jesus told The Athletic. "They said: 'Ah, maybe you signed for the wrong club'. I asked them why. With the quality in our team, why couldn't we go and win the league?"

Arsenal's Journey from Runners-Up to Title Favourites

In the three seasons since Jesus joined Arsenal, the Gunners have consistently finished as runners-up in the Premier League, narrowly missing out on the title on multiple occasions. This pattern of near-misses may have contributed to the initial disbelief among some players regarding his championship aspirations.

Yet, the current campaign tells a different story. Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have built a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the table over Jesus's former club, Manchester City, with just seven games remaining. This position of strength suggests that Jesus's vision is now closer to reality than ever before.

Jesus Emphasises Growth and Champions League Dreams

Reflecting on Arsenal's progression, Jesus highlighted the team's development. "It's a process that you have to respect," he added. "We've gone from fighting hard to qualify for the Champions League to fighting for the title. Our team is now more experienced, more mature. We can win the league this season and maybe another trophy as well."

While acknowledging the fans' desire for a first Premier League title in over two decades, Jesus also expressed his personal ambition to win the Champions League, a trophy that has eluded Arsenal throughout their history. "Me, I want to win everything, but if I have to choose, it's the Champions League," he stated.

A Rallying Cry for the Final Stretch

As Arsenal enter the crucial final phase of the season, Jesus has issued a motivational message to his teammates. He urged them to embrace their position as frontrunners without fear. "When you have [success], you can be scared of losing it. We still don't have it, so we cannot be scared. We cannot lose something we don't have. We need to go out there, game by game, and try to win," he asserted.

Arsenal's Premier League campaign is temporarily on hold this weekend, but the team has an immediate opportunity for silverware. They face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, a match that could serve as a precursor to the title race's conclusion.
