Brentford manager Thomas Frank has launched a scathing attack on the Football Association, demanding immediate action after what he described as a "dangerous" tackle from Aston Villa's Lucas Digne on Rodrigo Bentancur.
Controversial Clash Mars Villa Victory
The incident occurred during Saturday's Premier League encounter at Villa Park, where Unai Emery's side secured a dramatic 3-2 win. However, the victory was overshadowed by the 72nd-minute challenge that left Bentancur requiring treatment before being substituted.
Frank expressed his frustration post-match, stating: "It was a clear, dangerous tackle. I don't understand how VAR didn't intervene. We've seen similar incidents receive red cards this season."
Frank Calls for Consistency
The Danish manager emphasised the need for consistency in officiating, pointing to recent Premier League decisions: "If we're serious about protecting players, this cannot be ignored. The FA must review this incident - it's exactly why we have retrospective action available."
Bentancur, who only recently returned from a long-term injury, now faces another spell on the sidelines, though Brentford are yet to confirm the extent of the damage.
Emery Defends French Defender
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery offered a different perspective, defending his left-back: "Lucas went for the ball fairly. It was a competitive challenge in a physical game. I don't believe there was malicious intent."
The result leaves Villa巩固ing their top-four position while Brentford remain precariously close to the relegation zone, adding further significance to the potential suspension that could affect Digne.
All eyes now turn to the FA's decision-making process, with many anticipating whether they'll heed Frank's call for disciplinary action against the French international.
