Interim manager Darren Fletcher has issued a rallying cry to his Manchester United players, demanding they give everything to win the FA Cup as the club seeks redemption for a turbulent season.
A Season of Disappointment Fuels Cup Ambition
The Red Devils enter Sunday's third-round tie against Brighton in a state of flux. The club is currently searching for a caretaker manager to see out the campaign after terminating Ruben Amorim's 14-month reign on Monday. United's season has been marred by a humiliating Carabao Cup exit at Grimsby in August and the damaging loss of last May's Europa League final to Tottenham.
That defeat in Bilbao has consigned United to a first season without European football since 2014/15, significantly raising the stakes for a deep run in the domestic cup. Fletcher, speaking ahead of the Brighton clash, emphasised the tournament's importance to the club's identity.
"It's an important competition and Manchester United is about winning trophies," Fletcher stated. "I think we've had good success in the competition in recent years... It's the first trophy that I won as a player. It's a special tournament."

United begin their FA Cup journey sitting seventh in the Premier League, just three points off a guaranteed Champions League spot. The club's hierarchy is simultaneously weighing up who should lead the team for the remainder of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are understood to be the leading candidates for the interim post. Solskjaer was due for face-to-face talks with club chiefs on Saturday, while Carrick met with United's decision-makers earlier in the week. Fletcher and Ruud van Nistelrooy are also under consideration.
Whoever takes charge will soon have a stronger squad at their disposal. The conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations and a easing injury crisis will provide a welcome boost. Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, and Kobbie Mainoo all returned for Wednesday's 2-2 draw at Burnley.
