Exeter City Stadium Fire: Club Breaks Silence

Exeter City Football Club has broken its silence following a significant fire that tore through part of its St James' Park stadium overnight. The blaze, which required a major response from fire crews, caused damage to a temporary structure housing critical stadium infrastructure.

Fire Crews Battle Overnight Blaze

The incident began late on Wednesday night, with the alarm being raised just after 10pm. The fire is understood to have started in the St James Road and Well Street corner of the ground. More than five fire crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene and battled the flames for approximately two hours before bringing the situation under control.

The affected area was confirmed to be a temporary building which houses the stadium's control room. This room is a vital hub for matchday operations and safety. In its statement, the club described the damaged area as a "small area of the stadium" but acknowledged the seriousness of the incident.

Assessing the Damage and Moving Forward

In an official statement released this morning, the club confirmed the fire and the swift response. "Exeter City Football Club can confirm a small area of the stadium was damaged by fire last night," the statement read. It also expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you to the members of the public who reported the incident and for the fast response of the fire crews who brought the fire under control preventing further damage."

The club has stated that an assessment of the damage is underway today, with further updates promised once more information is available. The fire at the home of the League One club has undoubtedly caused significant disruption, though the full extent will become clearer following the damage assessment.
