Ex-Ravens Defensive Lineman Arthur Jones Dies Aged 39

Arthur Jones, a former NFL defensive lineman who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens, has died at the age of 39. His alma mater, Syracuse University, announced his death on Friday, but no cause was given.

Jones was selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2010 draft and spent his first four seasons in Baltimore. He recorded 8.5 of his 10 career sacks during the 2012-13 seasons, and was part of the Ravens team that defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. In that game, he sacked quarterback Colin Kaepernick just before a power outage at the Superdome and also recovered a fumble.

After his time with the Ravens, Jones played two seasons for the Indianapolis Colts and one final season with the Washington Commanders in 2017. He was the older brother of former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former Syracuse and NFL defensive end Chandler Jones, a four-time Pro Bowler who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.

At Syracuse, Jones set a school record for an interior defensive lineman with 38.5 tackles for loss and was a first-team All-Big East selection in his final two seasons. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta remembered him as a person who 'uplifted others' with his smile and energy. Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack praised him as a 'tremendous player and even better person' who continued to support the football programme after his playing career.
