Former Premier League footballer Lys Mousset has been fined £5,000 and banned from driving for six months after crashing his Lamborghini Aventador into two parked cars in Sheffield. The 25-year-old French forward, who played for Sheffield United, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after the incident on Abbeydale Road South on 4 January.
The court heard that the £350,000 supercar was badly damaged in the crash. Prosecutor Ellis Wilsdon said the force of the collision suggested the vehicle was travelling at substantial speed and was on the wrong side of the road. A resident reported hearing a car revving shortly after midnight and saw two men arguing near the crashed cars.
Mousset initially told witnesses his cousin was driving, but later admitted he was behind the wheel. His lawyer, Nick Terry, said Mousset had argued with his cousin, who offered to take the blame, but the player later decided to 'put the situation right'. Mousset, who earns £20,000 a week, left the scene to retrieve insurance documents, the court was told.
The player already had nine penalty points on his licence for three separate speeding offences. In addition to the fine and ban, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £190 and costs of £110. Mousset, who was signed by Sheffield United in 2019 for a club-record £10 million, did not attend the hearing.
